It was my birthday over the weekend, and I’ve been blessed with some really amazing family and friends.  The actual day was on Saturday and my boys treated me to breakfast and took me out to dinner.  I spent the day with extended family on Sunday, and on Monday I hung out with my girlfriends for dessert.  It was a great way to celebrate getting older.

One of the gifts I received was an amazing macro lens for my camera.  I’ve wanted a macro for a very long time, but the price had me not seriously considering it for a while.  I was very, very surprised to receive one as a gift. It’s well beyond my skill-level, so I have lots of learning to do, but I wanted to share a few pictures I’ve taken.

I am so excited about the potential to get really nice pictures of my jewelry. I love being able to take pictures of nature too. And it’s supposed to be a fantastic portrait lens.

I have some books coming from the library that I hope I’ll be able to use to learn more about using this type of lens well.  I am definitely having fun with the practice shots!

Here is my highlight of five posts in the blogging world I found interesting in the last week (or so). If you’re like me, you have limited time, and can’t always stay up-to-date on everyone’s blog. These were some of my favorites.

1. Digital Photography School
How to Achieve Better Bokeh – 4 Simple Tips

I had never heard the term “bokeh” before, but I’m sure you’ll be excited about these tips.

2. Doc4 Design
Color Trends Lead the Way to a Better Outlook

I found this post through another blog I follow (Color for Bead Artists). It’s a neat article, but the best part is the quote from The Devil Wears Prada.

3. How to Eat a Cupcake
Oatmeal Fudge Bars

How fantastic do these sound?? If I’d had time this week, I would have given them a try.

4. Blog for Beaders
Fall/Winter 2010 Fashion Trends

I’m kind of intrigued by the modern twist on more traditional styles. (And how do they already know these things?)

5. Stuff Christians Like
Trying to explain to men why you love Beth Moore so much.

This was a funny, yet true post. She explained it pretty accurately.

Hope you enjoyed this short jaunt around the web. Have a lovely rest of your day!

Here is my highlight of five posts in the blogging world I found interesting in the last week (or so). If you’re like me, you have limited time, and can’t always stay up-to-date on everyone’s blog. These were some of my favorites.

This is another one of those weeks where I haven’t even made it through my reader all the way, so let’s see if I can make it to five favorites.

1. Digital Photography School
Photographing Children: Capture Who They Are

Another one I missed from last week, but this was so good, that I had to post it this week. I loved the line in there where she talks about knowing your photo is “the one”.

2. Justatish Designs
Come Make a Ring with Me – Tutorial

This is a really simple tutorial on how to make your own custom ring. I’m not a huge fan of rings, but I might try one or two of these out.

3. Digital Photography School
Using Auto to Learn Manual – A Great First Step for Beginners

It’s a really simple idea, but an effective one for learning how to be comfortable in manual on your camera.

4. Welcome to Meredith’s World
Four Ideas to Expand Your Work

The ideas are straight-forward, but yet good to read. I like them all, but #2 has stuck with me. It’s always good to take a break to clear your mind.

5. Blog for Beaders
Swarovski Summer Color Trends

I really enjoyed the Spring release, and the Summer one is pretty cool too. I really want to make something with yellow in it. And I love the turquoise trend!

Hope you enjoyed this short jaunt around the web. Have a lovely rest of your day!

Here is my highlight of five posts in the blogging world I found interesting this week. If you’re like me, you have limited time, and can’t always stay up-to-date on everyone’s blog. These were some of my favorites.

1. Beadin’ Path: Weekly Beadditudes with Dara
How to Speak Bead

This post seriously had me laughing out loud. There are so many stones, colors, and bead styles that have pretty uncommon names. Dora takes the time to clear up some of the mispronunciations – complete with wacky (ok, I’ve probably said one or two of them before) examples.

2. Humblebeads Blog
Sisterhood of the Traveling Beads Giveaway

I found this link through Art Bead Scene, and I have to admit that this is a very tempting giveaway.  I don’t really have much in the realm of coolness to giveaway in return if I were to win, but wow, what a great bunch of beads. (At this point, I haven’t entered.  I’m too intimidated.)

3. Digital Photography School
5 Mind-Traps of Beginner Photographers

In many, many ways, I still consider myself a beginning photographer.  It’s on the rare occasion that I have the guts to throw the camera out of Auto mode and even then, I’m normally only adjusting one setting. I liked this post as a bit of a confidence boost for beginners. Or a shove in the right direction for those, like me, who shouldn’t be stuck in beginner mode.

4. Inspirational Beading
Pussy Willow Bracelet

I am not much of a seed-bead user or stitcher, but this bracelet was very cool and true to its inspiration.  I really liked it.

5. Digital Photography School
Beach Photography

I try not to use the same blog twice in one week, but sometimes it’s necessary. The pictures alone in this post are amazing. It really, really makes me want to take my camera to the beach. That’s actually saying a lot for me because I’m not much of a beach gal. (Shocking confession #512!)

Hope you enjoyed this short jaunt around the web. Have a lovely Sunday!
